Re: MOT Tomorrow

how did the MOT go then? Badly....and it'a R.I.P. I'm afraid for the box. Lots of corrosion issues - floor, sill and suspension mounting areas, both rear suspension pivots excessively loose and emissions which I've never been able to get into spec. Last year they were kind to it but now it's gone t...

MOT Tomorrow

"The box" is due for its MOT test tomorrow and I'm hoping for another year of razzing about, but the rot's gradually creeping in and I know one day it's going to be bad news. This year has been bad for the box as someone drove into the drivers door and stoved it in - I've pushed it out but it hasn't...

Re: Heater fault

yes exactly. I dont know the values of the two resistors needed and cant find it in the old forum. maybe yours can still be measured? *Solved* - the resistance wire is wound on a ceramic former and the centre-tap was rusty and broken. The connection to the centre-tap is via a loop which wraps aroun...

Re: Heater fault

I believe Someone posted resister values in the old forum to use two ceramic resistors instead. That would be useful as I could use encapsulated, heat-sunk resistors (like the one for the dim/dip headlights behind the front bumper) instead and they would not deteriorate like this old-style "dropper...

Heater fault

My heater blower middle position has stopped due to my resistor pack going crusty - the middle tap connection is loose and rusty, but these resistors seem rare and expensive new or cheaper examples are no better than mine - has anyone else had this and what did you do?

Re: Never take your eye off the ball!

The new pump arrived and I fitted it. During the process the brass fuel inlet tube came away from the top casting of the old pump very easily, and I noticed a pile of gaskets on either side of the insulating block showing either shoddy initial manufacture or later replacement. Now no more leaks thou...

Never take your eye off the ball!

This morning I opened the bonnet of my 1.1 carb Metro daily driver to re-fill the washer fluid after a long trip yesterday and noticed a very strong smell of petrol - my fuel pump was leaking and it was everywhere. The cause? The bottom three allen key screws that hold the two sections of the pump t...

Re: Mk1 MG hill climb racer

Look at my nice metropower A-series sticker :) I am trying to save weight and remove unnecessary things so I removed my heater blower and blanked off the hole where it used to sit using a thin sheet of aluminium. Now I am thinking about fitting some fresh air ducting to blow cold air on the windscr...

Re: Mk1 MG hill climb racer

The first race of the season is tomorrow and I am very much looking forward to this :) but my race class is hard this year, it has many of the same participants as last year, but with some new unknown participants. the class is cars from 1000-1300cc and my opponents are fiat 128 rally, fiat 128 cou...
