metro mk1 steering rack quick rack

Technical Help for the A & K Series Metro. Please state what year and model you're referring to for better responses.

metro mk1 steering rack quick rack

Hi all does anyone have or have any info on were to buy a quick rack from mk1 metro

I have been told that the turbos had quicker racks. If you find an extra let me know:-)

OK search every were and no body seems to do one so ive decided to make my own 2.7 turns lock to lock

if any body wants one let me know and ill keep you updated on progress

no I cant find one either :)

I will definitely be interested in knowing how you make it.
will you base it on a mini quick-rack?

no i used the 2.7 from the mgf

right. yes they look pretty simular. I have previously used the bush in one end of a mgf rack to repair an a-series metro rack in which the bush was disintegrated.

was it a direct fit or did you change over the tie rods?

There quite similar but do come through the chassis at different angles and require 2 swivel joints.

Im not sure what a normal metro rack and colume looks like as mine already had a single swivel when I got the car but since then I fitted power steering, so it all unique now

the rack outer from the mgf is much longer and so are the internals so these were shortened,

what tie bars!!!!!!

the normal a-series rack has a flat rubber coupling between the rack and the column. I have seen this changed to a swivel before though.

I thought that maybe it was enough to only change the tie rods one of which is detached in this picture:
